The Elveden Inn is situated in the heart of the Brecks, with plenty to see and do. Famous for its wide open spaces, miles of forest tracks and excellent local food and drink there is something for everyone right on your doorstep.

The area is steeped in history with many fascinating places nearby, everything from Neolithic flint mines at Grimes Grave’s to the ruins of Thetford priory. Why not visit the church of St. Andrew and St. Patrick in the heart of the Elveden village, Where Duleep Singh the last maharajah of the Punjab is buried.

The Brecks is one of the most important wildlife areas in Britain. The unique wildlife has been shaped by its soils, climate and forest. Over 65% of the UK’s Stone Curlews are found here, with over 50 pairs visiting Elveden every summer. The Elveden heaths are all protected by the Wildlife and Countryside Act as Sites of Special Scientific Interest.

The nearby town of Thetford is filled with history and heritage sites and open parkland, with many hidden gems. The world renowned steam engine manufacturer Charles Burrell had his factory here, with the original paint shop still standing as a museum. The famous BBC television series Dad’s Army was filmed in the town which was fictionally titled Walmington-on-Sea.

Take a stroll to the nearby Elveden Courtyard and Café, a relaxed environment for all the family to enjoy. The food hall has a selection of fine local foods and the lifestyle shops offer a range of home and garden accessories. Stop in our Café Restaurant for a delicious homemade lunch or a coffee and cake. The area around the Courtyard has a picturesque dog walk and nature trail.

 

Further afield, a short drive will take you to the nearby market town of Bury St Edmunds or to Newmarket the home of British horse racing. We are conveniently located half way between Norwich and Cambridge, a 45 minute drive will take you into the heart of these historic cities.
